Competition Ideas
The table below contains a variety of competition ideas and formats picked up from different sources. They are simply intended to be a guide. We would welcome any additional suggestions, alternative/improved descriptions of competitions and other successfully used handicap allowances etc.

Colourball
A Team game with teams of 3 or 4 in which one player plays a coloured ball. Team score comprises the score with the coloured ball plus the best of the other 2 or 3. Players alternate holes playing the coloured ball.

Bisque
A Match Play game against the course for 2/3/4's. Each player receives full handicap, but he can use the shots when he needs them. At the end of each hole the player announces whether he wants to use 1 or more of his shots on that hole.

Confusion
A game where one point is awarded to the first player of the group to be on the green, one for the player who is closest to the hole and one for the first player to hole out. The winner is the player with the highest number of points.

Cricket
( 4-2-0)

A game for three players where 6 points are always available at each hole - 4 for the lowest net score and 2 for the second lowest. Where scores are equal, the points are shared. the winner is the player with the highest number of points.

A game in a Stableford format with amended points:

8 pts for 3 under par, 5 pts for 2 under, 2 points for 1 under, 0 pts for par, -1 point for 1 over par, -3 points for 2 or more over par

Fourball variation - points game with the player with the lowest net score of the four scoring one point for his side and the player with the highest net score losing a point for his side. equal high or low scores - no points

Teams of 2/3/4. 1/2/3/4 scores can count on each hole - variation can be for all scores counting on selected holes or e.g. when playing in fours, 2 to count on first 6 holes, 3 to count on second 6 and all four on last 6 holes etc

Aggregate Pairs
Play in pairs and the both scores count on each hole. Stableford points is probably the best format for this competition

Can be teams of 2/3/4 . All plaers tee off. Team chooses best shot - all play from that place on each shot at every hole.

Identical to normal greensomes, except playing partners select which of the 2 tee shots is to be selected.

Medalford
Individual or pairs - Medal front nine (nett total), followed by Stableford back nine (pts) - subtract back nine pts from front nine nett to get total. Lowest total wins

Flag Competition
Individual medal. Player has a pre-arranged number of strokes equal to the SSS + his/her hcp. Player is given a flag with his/her name on and plants it at the place when the total number of pre arranged shots are used up.
Full hcp or 2/3 (or other %) hcp can be used to increase chance of winning player not having to play more than 18 holes.
